When it comes to keyframing, especially with scale and position-based parameters, your motion can seem too abrupt if you don’t use easing on your keyframes.
Also called “easy-ease”, this function essentially slows down the motion as it either approaches or leaves a keyframe. You can set keyframes to ease in, ease out, or both.
And in most programs, you can change the intensity of this slowdown by using a visual graph editor.
For example, let’s say you want to move a shape across your screen. If you use normal keyframes, the velocity will be constant, and the movement will go from 100 to 0 instantly and look clunky.
But if you ease both keyframes, the movement will start out slow, go fast in the middle, and slow down again at the end.
Eased keyframes are generally more natural and pleasant to view, and they’re super easy to use. If you’re doing any motion work in your projects, keyframe easing is a must-have skill.
